Meet Ashley Oelsen
My name is Ashley Oelsen. I am a dedicated mother, a passionate biologist, and your current Commissioner for Sustainability and Environmental Justice. As a long-time resident of Santa Monica with deep roots in this community, I prioritize our shared values and vision for a sustainable future. My mission is to advocate for a city that integrates environmental responsibility, fiscal stability, and humane solutions to homelessness into every decision made by the council.
My Vision for Santa Monica
I believe in a sustainable community that is built on three essential pillars: a thriving environment, sound financial planning, and safe, accessible streets for all. We must ensure that every council decision reflects our commitment to protecting our natural resources, while also supporting local businesses. Fiscal responsibility is crucial for maintaining our city's stability and ensuring that taxpayer money is used wisely. Moreover, we need to address homelessness with compassion, focusing on measurable outcomes and accountability while restoring local control over our human services.
My Commitment
I stand firmly against AB 1740, which threatens to undermine the Coastal Act and the protections it affords our beloved coastline. My approach incorporates scientific expertise and civic service, free from conflicts of interest. I recognize the urgent need for housing solutions in our city, particularly for our senior citizens facing displacement. Together, we can foster a community that prioritizes our environment, our economy, and our most vulnerable residents.
